Lauren R. Okum, ASA, EA, MAAA, MSPA

Lauren is the founding actuary of Premier Actuarial Solutions. She provides actuarial services to small and mid-sized organizations in a variety of industries. She has had a wide range of experiences, including design, funding, accounting and administration for pension plans. In her role as the lead actuary on her clients, she is responsible for reviewing and selecting actuarial assumptions, methods and procedures, as well as ensuring regulatory compliance. Lauren has a strong reputation within the actuarial community for being a highly qualified actuary with an exemplary work ethic.

Summary of experience

Lauren has over eighteen years of experience. In the first ten years of her career, Lauren worked with clients in the large plan market at Mercer Human Resource Consulting, PricewaterhouseCoopers, and Hewitt Associates. In January 2004, she transitioned to the smaller plan market at RSM McGladrey Retirement Resources. As the Director of Actuarial Consulting, she led over 25 client teams and set the quality control standards for the practice. Lauren was also the Director of Actuarial Services for Pension Specialists, Inc., where she led the defined benefit practice from all aspects.

As an expert in her field, Lauren was selected to participate in a podcast conducted by www.allbusiness.com to discuss the tax advantages of defined benefit plans. Lauren was also a featured speaker on financial accounting for pensions at the ACOPA Actuarial Symposium in August 2011 and GASB Statement Nos. 43 and 45 at the Illinois Government Finance Officers Association Annual Conference in September 2005. She co-authored an article on workforce management appearing in the Journal of Organizational Excellence and has served as a subject matter expert on phased retirement and Medicare Part D.
